Safety Glass
With Safety Glass being standard in most new buildings today, understanding the characteristics of each type is a must for anyone in the building industry.
Safety Glass is a general term for the following glass types:
1. Toughened Glass
Toughened Glass is approximately six times stronger on impact than annealed (ordinary) glass, it shatters into tiny pieces when broken. Used in showers, balustrades and doors.
2. Laminated Glass
Laminated glass is two sheets adhered together with a film in the centre, meaning when it breaks, it remains intact. The standard glass used in schools and for windscreens.
3. Wired Glass
A specialty fire rated glass, usually only used for this purpose.
